So you look at the maintenance tunnels, possibly wanting to get gear or get paid. However, there is one problem: roaches. Swarms of them, and their burrows, often plague the tunnels. So how does one deal with this, you may ask? Well, it depends on a few things.
Augmentations: Being fully augmented gets rid of all medical requirements except for toxin and oxygen damage. Taking a welder and cable coil as a FBP is smart, if not almost necessary. As is a few steel sheets to make a chair, for fixing on the go.
Intent: What is the goal of the expedition? Do you intend to gather roach meat? Or are you looking for loot? This will effect what weapons you may want to use, as well as other parts of the loadout.
Location: Do you intend to explore deepmaint? Or are you simply looking for designs and resources to arm yourself, or sell to the Guild? Keep this in mind when selecting a storage method.
Well, all of these can affect what you might want to bring on a trip, so let's go over the very basics.
The Basics: A shovel and weapon is almost a necessity to find anything useful, though there is still plenty that can be found without digging.Bring some basic meds or repair tools, and a source of light. Armor helps, but is not necessary at this point. Just be careful.
Scavenger: If you are not looking for roach meat, a pickaxe makes a good weapon, though it has a chance to gib the bugs. a good 2-3 hits usually does them in. Invest in a better shovel and some armor or a voidsuit, and you can sift through scrap piles with less worry.
Butcher: So you want to hunt bugs and profit from the meat. FIrst things first, grab a blunt weapon, or a gun. Make sure you still bring a knife, to get the meat. Armor and medicine is very much recommended here: Fighting bugs can hurt, and getting into paincrit usually means you are screwed the next time you wake up, as the bugs will just get right back to attacking you. RIGs are great for this purpose, as they have decently high armor against melee attacks when activated.
What to grab from maintenance, you may ask? Grab things to sell, and things to use. Things to sell could be metals and glass, some technology, and even roach meat, to the right people.
Things to use can be weapons and ammo, as well as some kind of armor or RIG.
Now, this is never a complete guide, so feel free to add suggestions to this that I didn't cover.
Have fun maintdiving, folks!
